In a webcast ceremony on Saturday night to present the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, KCET took home a commanding six awards. Following with five victories each, ABC7 and NBC4 took second and third place in the event, which was anchored by Spectrum News 1 reporter Giselle Fernández at the Television Academy Plaza in North Hollywood. In the categories of Live and Breaking News Coverage, Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, the Arts, Human Interest, Sports, and Environment, locally produced shows were recognised during the ceremony.
One of the major prizes given out that evening went to KTLA5 for its regularly scheduled daily evening newscast at 11 p.m. The best morning broadcast was NBC4, while the best daytime newscast was Noticiero Telemundo 52 on KVEA. Gayle Anderson of KTLA received this year’s Governors Award from Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma for her “contributions to television broadcasting in the greater Los Angeles area.”
