Aamir Khan Quit Bollywood: In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir Khan opened up about a deeply emotional moment that led him to consider stepping away from cinema. The Bollywood superstar, who has spent over three decades in the industry, revealed that his decision to quit acting came before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha. Reflecting on his journey, Aamir said, “Towards the end of Covid-19, I felt, sitting alone and thinking I’ve spent the bulk of my adult life, starting from the age of 18 when I became an assistant right up to now. All of my bandwidth, my focus has been cinema and films.”
This intense realization made Aamir confront a difficult truth: his commitment to cinema may have come at the expense of his personal relationships. “As a result, it made me realize that perhaps I’ve not been there enough for my relationships—my kids, my siblings, my family, whether it was Kiran when I was married to her, or Reena during our marriage. I felt that I had not been there for these people. This was midway during Laal Singh,” he added.

He continued, “I went through that emotional moment where I felt I’ve given my whole life to cinema and I’ve not been there for my family. I felt a lot of guilt. I didn’t feel good about what I had done, so it was a kind of emotional reaction from me saying, ‘I’ve done enough films, 35 years of films, I can now focus on my family and personal relationships.’ So, I called my family and said, ‘Listen, I’m not going to do films anymore. I want to spend time with you guys.’ It was not out of any disappointment with cinema, but rather an emotional feeling. And I’m an extreme person.”
However, it was Aamir’s children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan, who persuaded him to reconsider his decision. Junaid pointed out that his father was swinging from one extreme to another and suggested a middle path. According to Aamir, Junaid said, “Somewhere in the middle also, there is a space that you can be in. You can do films, and you can be with us.” This heartfelt conversation with his son made Aamir rethink his decision to completely give up acting.
Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by Advait Chandan. The film, which also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya, is the official Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks.
With his family’s support and a newfound perspective, it seems Aamir isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to the silver screen just yet, and fans can look forward to seeing more of his work in the future.
