Aamir Khan has often spoken about Mahabharata, his long-standing dream project. Every now and then, rumours about the film emerges, only to die down. The superstar recently spoke about the film adaption of the epic. At the India@2047 Summit hosted by ABP Live, he said that the project remains very close to his heart. “Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharat, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh… (It is my dream to make the Mahabharat, but it’s a very difficult dream…) see, Mahabharat will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharat down,” he said.
Earlier this month, he confirmed that the project will be a big franchise, with different directors working on various parts. When asked which character he’d like to play, Aamir said, “Actually… mujhe Krishna ka kirdaar bahot hi prabhavit karta hai… I’m very inspired by him. So that’s a character I really love (I find the character of Krishna deeply impactful. So that’s a character I really love).” He added, “Kyunki yeh bahot bada project hai, toh main kuch badi cheezein bolna nahi chah raha hoon (Since this is such a big project, I don’t want to say anything major right now).”
Speaking of the casting, Aamir Khan recently told The Hollywood Reporter that the team will pick actors based on who fits each role. “We’ll see who we should cast based on who’s appropriate for which part,” he clarified. He also shared that he may not direct the film himself because it’s a big project and will need several films to tell the full story. “I don’t think you can tell the Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale.” Noting that it maybe a multi-director project, he added, “It’s too early to say, but we may need multiple directors.”
Talking about his upcoming projects, he will be seen in Sitare Zameen Par along with Genelia which will release on June 20 this year. He also has Lahore 1947 as producer.
