After Red Bull, where he was performing reserve driver duties, dismissed Alex Albon from his contract, Albon joined Williams for this season as a replacement for George Russell. Through finishes of 10th in Australia and ninth in Miami, the Thai driver has produced a streak of impressive results and earned all of the team’s points this season.
“I am really excited to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year,” said Alex Albon. “The team has made some strong gains this year and it’s exciting to continue this journey and further develop our learning together.”
Given that Nicholas Latifi’s contract with Williams expires at the end of the current term, it is still unknown with whom Albon will partner in the following year. Two days after Fernando Alonso’s announcement to drive for Aston Martin’s squad in the upcoming season, and one day after Oscar Piastri was selected as the Spanish driver’s replacement by Alpine, Piastri later declared on social media that he would not be driving for the French team in 2023.
