Facing Negativity Head-On
Debuting in 2012, Arjun Kapoor has battled not just box-office numbers but also a wave of criticism from audiences and media alike. On the podcast, he admitted, “For a long time, people wanted me to fail. By people, I mean those who are slightly critical, clickbaity, and prone to trolling—they saw me as an easy target.”
The negativity, he explained, often stemmed from perceptions tied to his surname, personal life, and a string of films that underperformed. “The perception was that I didn’t like working, didn’t care about my work, wasn’t interested in improving, and didn’t deserve to be an actor,” Arjun revealed. He added how his health struggles during that period only fueled the narrative, making him as easy target for detractors.
‘I Don’t Respect Personal Attacks’
Discussing criticism of his work, Arjun highlighted how some reviews went beyond his craft. Sharing his thoughts on the reception of Kuttey, he said, “I respect reviews, but I don’t respect personal attacks.” Despite the trolling, Arjun maintained that his focus has always been on improving his craft and proving his mettle.
The Singham Agian Moment
Arjun shared his excitement about being a part of Rohit Shetty‘s Singham Again, which features Bollywood heavyweights like Ajay devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh. Recalling Rohit shetty’s reaction to his role, Arjun said, “I felt very happy when Rohit sir told me that people were now talking about me and recognising my ownership of the film. It was a graceful moment.”
A Rocky Road to Success
The past few years have been challenging for Arjun, with films like Sardar Ka Grandson, Bhoot Police, and Kuttey receiving lukewarm responses. However, 2023 marked a turning point as Arjun impressed audiences as the villainous Danger Lanka in Singham Again. With this, the actor appears to have found his footing once more.
