Bengaluru: The political winds have changed in Karnataka in just two years since the 2023 Assembly elections. The state, which once voted for Congress, is now completely rejecting the party. The People’s Pulse – Codemo survey has openly shown deep dissatisfaction with this development, which has exposed the failures of the Congress government across adults, communities and regions and increased support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Change in youth and working class
According to the survey, 56% of the youth in the age group of 18-25 are now supporting the BJP, as they mainly want development-oriented thinking (construction-oriented thinking), and reject free schemes-oriented thinking. The working class is suffering from the Congress’ economic failure, which has weakened the economic condition of the household connection due to budget cuts in infrastructure and rising prices of goods. 48.6% of the 26-35 age group and 50% of the 35-50 age group opposed the Congress’ weak planning and gimmick-based governance.
Change in rural Karnataka
A traditionally strong region for the Congress, rural Karnataka now supports the BJP with over 52%. The Congress has scrapped the BJP’s progressive farmer schemes like the ₹4,000 PM-Kisan Support Scheme and the Raitha Vidya Nidhi Scheme, which has led to a rise in farmer deaths and 54% of the farmer votes have shifted to the BJP.
Rise of BJP and Congress’ Failure
While the Congress has been playing politics by governing on caste equations and making populist promises, the BJP led by Narendra Modi has emerged as the only serious party focused on development, hospitality and national strength. The Congress regime has lost ground and lost respect. The message in Karnataka is not just a mid-term response, but an indication of a long-term political shift.
