Kapil Sharma Statement: The ever-popular The Great Indian Kapil Show found itself at the center of controversy after Kapil Sharma‘s conversation with filmmaker Atlee sparked backlash online. As Atlle appeared on the show to promote his upcoming venture Baby John alongside Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, a seemingly harmless question from Kapil set social media ablaze. The Controversial Comment
During the episode, Kapil quipped, “When you get to meet a star for the first time, do they ask, where is Atlee?” Atlee, taking the question in stride, responded with a heartfelt remark: “In a way I understood your question. I’ll try to answer. I’m actually very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir because he produced my first film. He asked for a script, but he didn’t see how I was looking or whether I’m capable of it or not. But, he loved my narration. I think the world should see that. We should not judge by appearance. You have to judge by your heart.”
While Atlee’s response was lauded for its grace, many social media users found Kapil’s comment offensive, dubbing it a ‘racist jibe.’

Kapil Reacts to the Backlash
On Tuesday, Kapil Sharma broke his silence and took to X(formerly Twitter) to address the controversy. Sharing a clip of the conversation from the episode, he wrote, “Dear sir, can you pls explain me where n when I talked about looks in this video? pls don’t spread hate on social media (folded hand emoji) thank you. (guys watch n decide by yourself, don’t follow any body’s tweet like a sheep).”
This marked Kapil’s first public reaction to the criticism. The comedian urged viewers to watch the entire episode before jumping to conclusions and condemned the spread of misinformation.
