Kapoor Family Meets PM Modi: Ranbir Kapoor recently shared a funny story about how nervous his entire family was before their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Along with his wife Alia Bhatt, mother Neetu Kapoor, sister Riddhima Kapoor, cousins Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and other family members, Ranbir met PM Modi to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of their late patriarch, Raj Kapoor. Despite their nerves, Ranbir revealed how PM Modi’s warm and friendly nature helped put everyone at ease. Also Read | PM Modi Teases Saif Ali Khan, Wants to Meet Taimur and Jeh
In a video from the event, Ranbir said, “It’s a special day for our Kapoor family. The PM gave such honour to Shri Raj Kapoor and us his precious time. We will always be grateful for this meeting. We had such fun with our sitdown gupchup (chat), because we could ask so many personal questions too. He has a very friendly nature and all our nervousness we had… hum sabki hawa tight thi (we were all quite nervous)… but he made us all feel very comfortable.”
Ranbir Kapoor’s Humorous Taxi Story Brings Laughter
A lighter moment from the meeting came when Ranbir shared an amusing anecdote about a past overseas trip. He recalled an incident where a Russian taxi driver, upon learning he was Raj Kapoor’s grandson, began singing songs and offering free rides. Ranbir laughingly added, “I told him I’m Raj Kapoor’s grandson, and ever since, I always seem to get free taxi rides!”
In another video clip shared on the PM’s official YouTube channel, Ranbir’s aunt Rima Kapoor had trouble finding the right words to address the PM, leading him to shout ‘Cut!’. This prompted a burst of laughter from everyone present.
PM Modi Reflects on Raj Kapoor’s Legacy
During their meeting, PM Modi expressed admiration for Raj Kapoor’s contributions to Indian cinema. He recalled how veteran leaders LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee had watched Raj Kapoor’s film Phir Subah Hogi to lift their spirits after an election defeat. “During the Jana Sangh era, after losing an election in Delhi, Advaniji and Atalji decided to watch a movie to lift their spirits. They chose Raj Kapoor’s Phir Subah Hogi. That was the kind of influence films had in those days,” PM Modi shared.
PM Modi also fondly remembered an encounter in China where a song by Ranbir’s father, the late Rishi Kapoor, was being played, and he promptly recorded it and sent it to him. “I asked my colleagues to record it and sent it to Rishiji. He was so delighted,” he said.
Raj Kapoor’s Cultural Influence and Global Impact
PM Modi reflected on Raj Kapoor’s lasting impact on Indian cinema and his role in showcasing India’s strength globally. He noted that Raj Kapoor’s work contributed to India’s cultural diplomacy long before “soft power” became a recognized concept. “In 1947, we had ‘Neel Kamal.’ As we approach 2047, it shows how such cultural milestones shaped India’s story. Raj Kapoor showcased India’s strength to the world through cinema long before it was a formal part of diplomacy,” said PM Modi.
