Veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday at the age of 87. He was a legendary name in Indian cinema and popularly known for his patriotic films. He took his last breath in Mumbai’s Kokilay Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The reason behind his demise is still blurred and details about his final rites is also awaited.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit mourned the demise of Manoj Kumar and paid tribute to him. Calling it a great loss to the film industry, Ashoke Pandit said, “Sad to inform you all that legendary Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, doyen of Indian film industry, Shri Manoj Kumar ji is no more. He breathed his last at the Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri.”
Pandit further added that Manoj Kumar was not keeping well for a long time. He added, “It’s a great loss to the industry. Manoj ji, will really miss you. We all kept meeting him quite occasionally. He was always full of life, always happy. The entire industry will miss him. A great soul like him, a great maker like him, will never be there in our industry.”
He was not only a talented actor but also made a name for himself as a director, writer, lyricist, and editor. His contributions to the industry were recognized with many awards. He received the National Film Award and won seven Filmfare Awards. In 1992, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri. Later, in 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema Manoj Kumar’s most famous movies include Purab Aur Paschim, Kranti, and Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan.
