Two Rugby School cricketers are set to star when The Hundred returns for a second season in August. Jacob Bethell, who is in his final term at school, will play for Cardiff-based Welsh Fire in the 100-ball format. Bethell, who was raised in Barbados and was offered a sports scholarship at Rugby when he was 13, represented England in the U-19s cricket World Cup earlier this year in the West Indies.
Meanwhile, Maia Bouchier will continue to represent Southern Brave, which is based in Southampton. The 23-year-old former Rugby student helped the Brave reach the final of last year’s inaugural competition by scoring 92 runs at a strike rate of 143.75.
She is primarily a batter, but her desire to play for England has led her to focus her efforts on pace bowling. In domestic cricket, she is a consistent run-scorer. Has travelled to New Zealand to play. To stay fit during the winter, she plays football. In The Hundred 2021, she had six catches, which was tied for the most in the Women’s competition.
Bouchier overcame a suspension for an illegal bowling action in October 2020, making her international debut for England women’s cricket team less than a year later, before heading to Australia to compete in the Women’s Ashes in early 2022.
