A shocking case of burglary has come to light from the Hadapsar area of Pune, where unidentified thieves broke into the residence of a retired Wing Commander and escaped with 83 tolas of gold ornaments and ₹7.5 lakh in cash. The total value of the stolen property is estimated to be well over ₹50 lakh.
According to the police, the theft occurred when the retired officer and his family were away from home for a few days. Taking advantage of the absence, the burglars reportedly gained access to the premises by breaking the main door lock during nighttime hours and carried out the theft systematically.
What Was Stolen:
-
83 tolas of gold ornaments (approximately 966 grams), including bangles, necklaces, and other family heirlooms
-
₹7.5 lakh in cash, kept in a secured cabinet
When the family returned, they were horrified to find the house ransacked. They immediately informed the Hadapsar Police, who rushed to the spot, took fingerprints, and began combing through CCTV footage from surrounding buildings to track the suspects.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials stated that a special crime investigation team has been deployed for the case. Early findings suggest that the criminals might have been aware of the family’s absence and had done preliminary reconnaissance of the location.
“The burglars appear to be professionals. The precision with which they entered and looted the house shows this was a well-planned operation,” a senior police officer said.
So far, no arrests have been made, but police say they are working on several leads.
Public Reaction and Safety Concerns
The incident has created a sense of fear and unease among the local residents. Many have expressed concern about rising burglary and theft cases in residential areas of Pune, especially during vacation periods when families are often away.
Local citizens are now urging the police department to increase night patrolling and boost surveillance, particularly in quieter residential pockets like Hadapsar.
