Speaking during the trailer launch of his upcoming film Barroz, Mohanlal reflected on the remakes and shared his thoughts on comparisons. Mohanlal on Akshay Kumar’s Remakes
Mohanlal, with over 300 films to his name, including classics like Manichitrathazhu, Kireedam, Bharatham, Drishyam, and Pulimurugan, has made an unparalleled impact on Malayalam cinema. At the Mumbai event, he discussed Akshay Kumar’s remakes of his films, saying: “Most of my films were remade into Hindi. And Akshay ji has done it. You cannot compare actors. This is totally different. Even the costume, character, body language, everything will be different. I love his films. I have seen most of the films that Priyadarshan has remade. He’s a brilliant actor. He’s very punctual. And he loves his profession. He’s a 100% professional actor. I’m not that professional,” Mohanlal said, appreciating Akshay’s dedication.
Akshay Kumar Praises Mohanlal
Akshay Kumar, who starred in remakes of Mohanlal’s Malayalam hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Garam Masala, admired the veteran actor. At the Barroz trailer launch, where he attended as the chief guest, he said: “Like anyone else, I am also a huge fan of Mohanlal, sir. I have seen many of his films. In your first film, you were a villain in 1980. I remember that film. And then Chitaram, which was directed by our friend Priyadarshan sahab. I have seen many such films with subtitles despite not knowing the language.”
About Barroz: Mohanlal’s Directorial Debut
Mohanlal brings Barroz, a 3D fantasy film adapted from Jijo Punnoose’s novel Barroz: Guardian of Da Gama’s Treasure, to life. He plays a ghost who guards Vasco da Gama’s treasure for over 400 years.
At 64, Mohanlal makes his directorial debut with this film. The cast includes Mayo Rao West and June Vig, while Santosh Sivan handles cinematography, and Lydian Nadhaswaran and Mark Kilian compose the music. Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas collaborates with Pen Studios to produce the movie, which releases in 3D across Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages on December 27.
