Akshay Kumar, who starred in remakes of Mohanlal’s Malayalam hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Garam Masala, admired the veteran actor. At the Barroz trailer launch, where he attended as the chief guest, he said: “Like anyone else, I am also a huge fan of Mohanlal, sir. I have seen many of his films. In your first film, you were a villain in 1980. I remember that film. And then Chitaram, which was directed by our friend Priyadarshan sahab. I have seen many such films with subtitles despite not knowing the language.”
About Barroz: Mohanlal’s Directorial Debut
Mohanlal brings Barroz, a 3D fantasy film adapted from Jijo Punnoose’s novel Barroz: Guardian of Da Gama’s Treasure, to life. He plays a ghost who guards Vasco da Gama’s treasure for over 400 years.
At 64, Mohanlal makes his directorial debut with this film. The cast includes Mayo Rao West and June Vig, while Santosh Sivan handles cinematography, and Lydian Nadhaswaran and Mark Kilian compose the music. Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas collaborates with Pen Studios to produce the movie, which releases in 3D across Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages on December 27.
