Gujarat will host the 2022 National Games from September 27 to October 10, 2022. After a seven-year hiatus, India’s prestigious multi-event sporting showcase returns. It was most recently held in Kerala in 2015.
Where will the National Games be held in 2022?
Gujarat will host the National Games in six cities: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar. For the first time, Gujarat will host the National Games. The National Games will be held for the 36th time, with an estimated 7,000 athletes competing in 36 sports. All 28 states and eight Union Territories will compete in the Games, which will promote the theme “Sports for Unity.” Tulika Maan, a silver medalist in the Commonwealth Games 2022, is also competing in the national game. Unfortunately, Sanket Sargar will be unable to compete in the national game due to his UCL injury sustained during his Commonwealth Games 2022 bout (CWG 2022)
Why was there a seven-year gap between National Games?
Following Kerala in 2015, Goa was scheduled to host the 36th edition in November 2016. The Games were postponed to 2020 after delays in 2018 and 2019. COVID-19 then forced the National Games to be postponed, and the Goa government was unsure whether it would be able to host the event this year.
