Priyanka Chopra Botched Nose Job: Priyanka Chopra, a global icon today, almost saw her Bollywood journey end before it could even take off. Filmmaker Anil Sharma, who launched Priyanka in her debut Bollywood film The Hero, recently revealed how a botched nose surgery in the early 2000s pushed the actress to the verge of giving up on her dreams and moving back to her hometown, Bareilly.
Anil Sharma on Priyanka’s Early Struggles
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan for his YouTube channel, Anil Sharma opened up about Priyanka’s troubled start in the industry. Contrary to rumors that the surgery was an attempt to ‘look like Julia Roberts,’ Sharma clarified it was a medical procedure gone wrong and not Priyanka’s fault. Unfortunately this incident caused Priyanka to lose out on several projects.
Sharma recalled, “At that time, I had already given her a token of ₹5 lakh. She came with the cheque. She said I have been fired and now I am moving back to Bareilly. They said they were waiting to give my money back. I said you keep the money and I scolded her a bit. She then told me what actually happened with her nose.”

Priyanka Was Ready to Quit and Go Home
The situation was so dire that Priyanka and her family were prepared to leave Mumbai altogether. “She said my father is already back in Bareilly and has rejoined his duty in the army. Her mother said she will also resume her practice. They thought it would take some time for Priyanka to heal, so they would come back after a year or so. They were paying so much rent here, and they were regular people, not like Ambanis. I told them to stop,” Sharma revealed.
Sharma’s unwavering belief in Priyanka and his encouragement made all the difference. He stopped her from giving up and convinced her to stay back and fight for her place in the industry.
Priyanka Chopra’s Rise to Stardom
After overcoming this challenging phase, Priyanka made her debut with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. The same year, she delivered a hit with Andaaaz, followed by critically acclaimed performances in Aitraaz, Barfi, and Mary Kom.
Her career took a global turn in the mid-2010s when she moved to the US, starring in the hits TV series Quantico and later appearing in international projects like The Matrix 4 and Citadel. Priyanka’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and having somewhere who believes in you during your darkest hours.
