The 2019 Australian Grand Prix was the last time we saw Formula 1 action at Albert Park, as the 2020 staging was cancelled just before the first practice session due to the escalating global pandemic. It goes without saying that Ricciardo is eager to race again in his home country.
Daniel Ricciardo believes he once took the Australian Grand Prix for granted, but three years of no Formula One action at Albert Park has left him yearning for a race on home soil.
Riccardo, who was named a member of the Order of Australia in the 2022 Australian day honors earlier this year, has twice finished fourth at Albert Park but has yet to finish on the podium in Melbourne.
Ricciardo retired on lap 35, leaving teammate Lando Norris to finish seventh and earn McLaren’s first points of the season, putting them eighth in the constructors’ standings. Ricciardo admitted that he didn’t know what caused the problem, but he was pleased with the team’s progress.
After a disappointing start to the season in Bahrain, where Ricciardo and teammate Lando Norris finished 14th and 15th, respectively, the Australian shed some light on why he thought McLaren enjoyed a turn of pace in Jeddah.
