Red Bull has been found guilty of a “minor overspend violation” of Formula One‘s cost-cap regulations for 2021, but their punishment has yet to be determined.
Aston Martin is in ‘Procedural Breach,’ according to the FIA, who released their findings in a cost cap investigation on the Monday following the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix.
According to the FIA, Red Bull committed a Procedural Breach and a Minor Financial Overspend (less than 5% of the Cost Cap). Williams was discovered to have committed a Procedural Breach in May 2022, which the team remedied in a “timely, cooperative, and transparent manner.”
Procedural violations and minor overspend violations can result in championship point deductions, though this is not expected in this case. Suspension from one or more stages of a competition (but not the race, only other sessions), limitations on aerodynamic or other testing, and cost cap reduction are also options.
The FIA did not specify how much Red Bull exceeded the cap, how it did so, or what penalties would be imposed. The company stated that it was “currently determining appropriate action.”
