Singham Again is one of the biggest Hindi releases ever. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film released on November 1st, draws on the theme of the Ramayana and promises a critical revival for the Cop Universe.
An action-packed crime drama, Singham Again follows Ajay Devgn’s relentless police chief as he battles a powerful crime syndicate trafficking lethal toxic medical waste. A cop uncovers the scheme, revealing foreign waste secretly buried in Indian soil.
Summary
The story kicks off when Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) arrests the notorious terrorist Omar Hafeez (Jackiy shroff). However this bold move has serious concequences, as Omar’s vengeful grandson, Danger Lanka(Arjun Kapoor), retaliate by abducting Singham’s wife Avni(Kareena kappor) setting the stage for an intense showdown.
Director Rohit Shetty left no doubts about why he’s known for his action movies. The movie is a ‘Diwali Pataka’ and features a diverse cast of A-list stars like Deepika Padukone (Shakti Shetty), Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles alongside Kareena Kapoor. The cast also includes Jackie Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Tiger Shroff (Satya), and our beloved small-screen actors, including Ravi Kumar, Shweta Tiwari, and Dayanand Shetty.
Film’s connection with Ramayan
The film runs parallel to the Ramayana and has various whistle-blowing moments, whether it’s the entry of Deepika, her failed attempt to portray a wacky cop, Tiger Shroff doing Kalaripayattu, Ranveer Singh’s humorous antics, Akshay Kumar clinging to the chopper door or kareena Kapoor saying ‘Daya Darvaza Tod’. The adrenaline-pumping action scenes were well-crafted and innovative for the audience. The entire cast’s entries are worth applauding, playing perfectly to the gallery.
Shantanu Srivastav’s dialogues pack quite a punch. Sample this: ‘Sitare aasman mein achhe lagte hain ya phir sheron ke kandhe pe.” (Stars look good in the sky or on a brave cop’s uniform). However, some references to the Ramayan don’t quite land and feel forced into the narrative”
Combo Of Action and Commedy
The movie was filmed in various locations, including Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and it single-handedly portrayed the diversity of different cultures celebrated in India. Rohit Shetty expertly balanced Singham’s cop action with his Golmaal comedy. The credit for all the funny parts goes to two gentlemen: Ranveer Singh (Simbaa) and Akshay Kumar (Suryavanshi).
Be it him telling Kareena in one scene that someone’s wife is always getting into trouble in the CopVerse: “Aur phir sabko aana padhta hai, sabka date milna mushkil hota hai.” I wasn’t expecting a Rohit Shetty film to go meta! The same goes for when he looks at Deepika after the climax and says, “Dekho abhi family bhi badh raha hai.” Is it the CopVerse he refers to, or their own baby? Go figure! And Akshay Kumar, with his habit of clinging to the helicopter’s door and forgetting his mates’ names.
If we talk about the main villain, Danger Lanka (Arjun Kapoor), the director successfully created a terrifying look for him, particularly notable in his entry scene when he walks in with a devilish smile while wearing a burning stole and killing dozens. Everything was perfect, and the audience was convinced that Danger Lanka was ‘THE RAVAN’—until Arjun Kapoor opened his mouth.
As for another actor who struggled with her role, that would be Deepika. Yes, she tried her best and excelled in the action scenes, but apart from that, it didn’t seem like she was truly embodying the character of a cop. Overall the movie deserves a good 8 out of 10.
And what about Chulbul Pandey’s entry? Well, you’ll need to go to the theaters to see that!
