An idea is like a seed, tiny at first but it can outgrow and outlast generations. However, for the smallest seed of an idea to prosper and fulfil its true potential, it needs the right amount of nurturing. When Vedant Sharma, Head of Content and Communications at MyTeam11, pitched the idea of SportsTiger – a sports news aggregator cum live streaming application – with founders Sanjit Sihag and Vinit Godara, there was a sense of optimism filling the air.
The seed was planted on that morning in November 2019, all it required now was the nurturing. The kind of path-breaking treatment that could define the organisation and its willingness to expand, while catering to the ever-growing thirst for sport amongst the global audience. As soon as he got the approval, Vedant knew that his brainchild, SportsTiger, required a USP (Unique Selling Proposition) to carve out a niche in the sports media industry.
Roadmap Of The Product
In an increasingly fast-paced world, where things unfold at break-neck pace, time is not a luxury everybody can afford. With more and more people depending on bite-sized information on the go, SportsTiger decided to lay its foundation on similar lines.
At the time of deriving the roadmap for the product, nobody in the market was dedicated to providing 60-word news exclusively in the field of sports. As such, the ethos of the product was defined – a destination where all the latest developments from the sporting ecosystem are curated and packaged in bite-sized capsules for the audience to consume.
However, a seed is never destined to remain a seed when it is given the right amount of nourishment. It springs to life by sprouting out of the soil, grows taller with time and spreads out its branches. It was on February 20, 2020 that the seed sprung to life for everyone to witness after several months of groundwork.
SportsTiger ensured the roar associated with the official launch of its mobile application was loud enough after bagging the exclusive live streaming rights of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 in India. The collaboration was a significant coup for the product and helped SportsTiger surpass 850,000 downloads across Android and iOS devices within just over a month.
Journey Of SportsTiger
SportsTiger offers latest sports news, match analysis, preview and highlights; players’ career info, videos and interviews; top fantasy picks and guide; live scorecard, stats and schedule for forthcoming events in the field of sports.
Retention Of User base After Outbreak of COVID-19
Despite the meteoric rise in users, the lack of live sporting events due to the pandemic meant the retention of the audience would not be as straightforward as it sounded. Several thousands of people wanted a reason to continue spending time on the application and SportsTiger responded with their first exclusive interview series named ‘Off The Field’. From S Sreesanth to David Gower, there were 10 episodes featuring eminent personalities from the world of cricket, an interview series that brought the stars even closer to the audience.
From being a bite-sized news application, the branches were now starting to take shape in the form of exclusive interviews, a strong social media presence and live streaming rights for another four tournaments namely Taipei T10 League (Taiwan), Vanuatu Blast T10 League, BC Cricket Championship (Canada) and Tanzania APL T20.
With the product on the ascendancy and spreading out several branches, the combined efforts by the team bore fruits like successfully covering IPL 2020 and collaborating with former England cricketer Monty Panesar for special talk shows.
Becoming One-Stop Platform For Sports Fans
As things stand, SportsTiger is now the one-stop destination that caters to not just news and exclusive video content, but fantasy gaming tips as well as live score updates for a wide variety of sports. With the product surpassing 1 million downloads on Android and iOS with average rating of 4.4, the plans are only getting bigger and better.
The seed is now set to become a fully-grown tree with the introduction of the SportsTiger website. A significant online presence, which will continue to provide everything available on the mobile application and more. Following the introduction of a brand-new interview series named “Building Bridges”, SportsTiger also aims to bring out stories from lesser-known athletes and sports to try and provide them maximum visibility.
The scale of operations may have become substantially higher, but the principles of authenticity and timeliness still hold the roots together at SportsTiger – the seed that became a tree.
