In an interview, when asked about her first salary, and how much time it consume to make a film, answering this question she said, “The first film I signed, I got the same for both. I got paid Rs 5 lakh for the full film. It takes 35-40 days, Pre and post preparations take another two to three weeks. So from there I started learning. I spent three years there.” The host questioned You did Tamil and Telugu movies for three years. Do you speak Tamil or Telugu? Taapsee said, “No, not at all. I hadn’t even heard it. What used to happen there was I’d reach and actually the film that I was doing in Tamil was a very rooted film. It won six national awards. Such a great director. I was opposite Dhanush. Vetrimaaran was the director. I mean, I don’t know how many people make more realistic and hard-hitting cinema than that in this country. And on the opposite side was the Telugu film directed by Raghavendra Rao ji who launched actress like Sridevi. Actresses would want to work. This used to be a big bucket list item to work with him because the way he presented his actresses, no one else did. And my film was his 105th film in which he was launching me. So half the rumours in the industry were that Raghavendra Rao is launching a new girl So there must be something in her. So, half my job was done right there. The rumours had done the job for me. It was a different thing that my struggle actually started after the first film. There were so many expectations, how would one ever live up to them? I mean, then I started learning. That’s why I say that I decided after my first film to do this properly. Let’s become an actor let’s learn from scratch.”

The host also asked her about Other than talent, what do you need in order to grow? Her quick reply was Good luck. That’s what it is. Luck and good contacts within the industry because the access points are very critical. Look, there’s no role that only one person can play and no one other than them can do justice to it. Let’s be real and practical it’s not like that. So, if you’re at the right place at the right time, then you might get it. Or, if you have a godfather on your life who can pick up the phone and tell people, “You take her”, then you can get it. Or you create a opportunity yourself that you go and find the script, you package it, then it can happen. These are the only ways, there’s no other way. When asked about or if you have a family background the..? She said, That’s the access point. Someone calls on your behalf and says, “This is my daughter or my sister or someone I know or my friend’s daughter give her the role.” It happens in the industry, it happens even today.
