A 19-year-old college student was allegedly gang raped by three men behind the Airport area in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore.
Police said the victim was with her friend in a car when the men approached them, attacked her friend, abducted her, and fled the spot.
The friend immediately alerted the authorities, following which police launched a search operation and found the woman unconscious. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Sources said the accused had earlier stolen a motorbike on Sunday before committing the crime. The woman was reportedly taken to a secluded area where she was sexually assaulted.
Police have formed seven special teams to trace and arrest the culprits.
Reacting to the incident, former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai said the case reflects the DMK government’s failure to ensure women’s safety. In a post on X, he called the assault “deeply shocking” and wished for the survivor’s speedy recovery.
He wrote, “Since the DMK government came to power in Tamil Nadu, incidents like this series of crimes against women clearly show that anti-social elements have absolutely no fear of the law or the police.”
