The Sabarmati Report Day 3 Box Office Collection: Dheeraj Sarna‘s The Sabarmati Report, featuring Vikrant Massey, revolves around the infamous Sabarmati Express burning incident in Godhra, Gujarat, in 2002. The movie saw a decent performance at the domestic box office over its opening weekend but still trails behind the success of Vikrant Massey’s sleeper hit from last year, 12th Fail.
Opening Weekend Performance
The film collected ₹3 crore on Sunday, marking a slight increase from its Saturday earnings of ₹2.1 crore, and showing growth from its first-day collection of ₹1.25 crore. This marks Vikrant’s highest career opening so far, as the film managed to outpace the opening of 12th Fail. However, 12th Fail exhibited stronger growth across its weekend, with a slightly higher day 3 earning of ₹3.12 crore, compared to The Sabarmati Report. The total opening weekend box office for 12th Fail was ₹6.74 crore, slightly surpassing The Sabarmati Report, which closed its first weekend at ₹6.35 crore. Despite being the only Bollywood release of the week, the film is facing competition from Siva’s Tamil fantasy epic Kanguva, featuring Suriya, as well as the Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator II by Ridley Scott.
PM Modi Backs The Sabarmati Report
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently showed support for the film on social media. Responding to an X user who shared a clip from the movie’s trailer, PM Modi commented, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!” The movie retells the tragic event from February 27, 2002, when the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express was set on fire near Godhra station, resulting in the deaths of 59 devotees returning from Ayodhya. The incident triggered widespread riots in Gujarat, where PM Modi was the serving Chief Minister at the time.
