Nayanthara Lady Superstar: Despite her popularity as the “Lady Superstar” of South Indian cinema, Nayanthara revealed that she does not enjoy or embrace the title. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor expressed her discomfort with being referred to by this moniker.
Nayanthara Response on the Backlash
“The backlash I’ve received for this title is unbelievable. For the past 5-6 years, I’ve told all my producers, directors, in all the films I’m doing, I’ve literally begged them to not use that title card. Because I’m so scared. My career is not defined by the title or the tag. And I’m not trying to snatch away someone else’s title It’s not about that. It doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s not like I thought about it one night, created it, and next day, said this is my title, use it. We live in such a smart world. You can’t fool the audience. You can’t do anything on your own. It just happens,” Nayanthara explained.

Acknowledging Her Male Co-Stars
Nayanthara’s fans hail her as the “Lady Superstar,” a title that also draws criticism from some quarters, particularly fans of Rajnikanth, her Chandramukhi co-star, who has long been revered as “superstar”. Addressing the dynamic, Nayanthara clarified that she deeply respects her male co-stars and acknowledges their role in shaping her career.
“I won’t say I’m not dependent on my heroes. I always feel my women- centric films are doing really well. I have a certain following because of all the biggest superstars I’ve worked with, especially at the beginning of my career, and even till now. I think that’s partly contributed, all the amazing men, amazing co-stars I’ve worked with. It’s their fan following that comes likes a cumulative fan following for me. That’s true,” Nayanthara said.
Credit to Industry Stalwarts
The actor credited her collaborations with Tamil superstars like Rajinikanth, Ajith, and Vijay, as well as Malayam icons such as Mohanlal and Mamootty, for boosting her fan base. According to Nayanthara, the collective support and recognition from these actors’ audiences have played a significant role in her own rise of fame.
Finding a balance in Stardom
While Nayanthara appreciates the love and respect her fans have for her, she remains firm in her stance against defining her career by titles or tags. For her, it’s the work that truly matters, not the labels bestowed upon her.
