Maharashtra is the birthplace of the traditional sport, and the state has long been a dominant force on the Indian Kho-Kho circuit. Three Maharashtra teams competed in the National Championships, and they also won the boys and girls categories in the recently concluded Khelo India Youth Games.
With popular singer Badshah joining the league as co-owner of the Mumbai franchise alongside renowned film producer, developer, and sports enthusiast Punit Balan, Ultimate Kho Kho has taken on a Bollywood flavour. The franchise will be called “Mumbai Khiladis.”
Fascinated by the game’s pace and elegant style, as well as the nostalgic value it holds for him, Badshah believes Ultimate Kho Kho 2022 has enormous potential. Through this association, he hopes to inspire and develop superstars in this indigenous sport.
Balan, a young and energetic entrepreneur, is one of the few new-age sports investors. Aside from running the Balan Group, which is worth INR 3,500 crore, he also owns teams in various sporting leagues such as badminton, tennis, table tennis, and handball, as well as investing in sports employment start-ups and actively supporting various athletes.
