Vasan Bala On Alia Bhatt: Director Vasan Bala recently opened up about his experience working with Alia Bhatt in the jailbreak thriller Jigra. While the film failed to make a mark at the box office, the director couldn’t stop praising Alia’s exceptional talent and professionalism, which, according to him, can leave directors spoiled for life.
“Directors Get Spoilt With Alia”
In an interview Mashable India, Vasan Bala shared his admiration for Alia’s effortless brilliance on set. “I think every director who I love should get an opportunity to work with Alia Bhatt. They will be spoilt and then unki agli film mein band bajegi (They will suffer in their next film),” he said, explaining how seamlessly Alia adapts to her role.
Highlighting her unique approach, he added, “She has no entourage, nothing, she is always ready. Sometimes, I didn’t even have to communicate how I wanted a scene; a gesture from my end would be enough for her to understand what I needed in that shot.”

A Rare Light-Hearted Day on the Jigra Set
Since Jigra dealth with a grim subject, the atmosphere on set often remained serious. However, Vasan fondly recalled a day when he and Alia decided to break the monotony. “Usually, sets are funny, but this film lacked humour, so the environment on the set used to remain quite serious. This one day, we had a lighter day, and we were just chit-chatting and laughing,” he said.

The story followed a woman’s relentless fight to rescue her brother, wrongfully imprisoned on death row in a fictious Asian country. Despite receiving critical acclaim, Jigra struggled at the box office, earning only ₹55 crore worlwide.
