Yuvraj Singh Rohit Sharma: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has come to the defense of Rohit Sharma, urging critics to evaluate the skipper’s performance over a longer period rather than focusing on recent defeats. Yuvraj, known for his candid opinions, made a strong case.
“Rohit Cannot Be Judged Based on Recent Defeats”
Rohit Sharma has faced scrutiny after India’s disappointing results post the 2024 T20 World Cup, including a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home. Speaking at an event, Yuvraj dismissed the idea of judging Rohit solely on these setbacks.
“I always look at the team graph over a five-year period or three years. Gautam [Gambhir] has just come into the system, he needs more time. Rohit Sharma has won the T20 World Cup as captain, he was captain when India played the ODI World Cup final. He led MI (Mumbai Indians) to five IPL titles,” Yuvraj remined the critics.

Yuvraj Question Critics’ Memory
Referring to Rohit’s decision to step down for the final Test against Australia after a lean patch, Yuvraj posed question: “The guy has stepped down from the last match and given somebody else a chance. How many captains have done that in the past? Please tell me.”
A Tougher Pill to Swallow
Yuvraj also emphasized that India’s home series loss to New Zealand was more shocking than the defeat to Australia. “That is a tougher pill to swallow,” he said, acknowledging that such setbacks can overshadow individual brilliance.
Time to See the Bigger Picture
While the losses have raised eyebrows, Yuvraj’s message is clear-Rohit’s legacy as a captain cannot be tarnished by a few bad series. Instead, the focus should be on the team’s long-term growth and the emergence of promising talent under his leadership.
